Volunteering With Us

Getting Involved

Above all, CARESCO is about people. Our activities are all aimed at serving the people of our local community, but just as important are all those who contribute to our efforts - in many different ways.

Our volunteers are central to CARESCO; without them we would not exist. The organisation was started by volunteers and is run by volunteers. All of the activities are dependent on teams of volunteers, without whom we could not function.

Volunteering works both ways. It is what makes CARESCO the success it is, but it also gives something back to the people who do it. Volunteering can provide an occupation to fill spare time, an introduction back into work, a way of making new friends or just the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile and being part of a team.

All our volunteers who give freely of their time to help and support others from within their own community. There are a wide range of opportunities for volunteers, so whatever time and skills you have to offer, we can usually find a place for you within CARESCO.

These opportunities can range from washing up to serving shop customers, from driving to making a cuppa, from chatting with service users to helping to manage the whole organisation, and many more. We are always looking for volunteers to help with our work. If you would like more information about how you can get involved, please contact us.

There are lots of ways you can get involved and help with the work of CARESCO, for an introduction to the whole family of CARESCO activities, download our general leaflet.

Volunteers Week runs from 1 - 7th June and is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. We took the opportunity to thank all our volunteers at CARESCO in 2022 with an Ode to a Volunteer.

In June 2022 we were delighted to learn that CARESCO’s amazing volunteers had been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for local voluntary groups. Visit our dedicated QAVS page for details. You can find out more about the Award itself on the official website or by clicking on the QAVS emblem on the right.

Trustees

Do you have particular skills that would be useful in helping to manage our charity? We need people who are willing and able to take on the overall running of our whole organisation.

As a registered charitable company, CARESCO is managed by a board of trustees known as the Management Committee. The Committee meet regularly during the year as well as working on sub-committees in between. The trustees are legally responsible for the oversight of the running of the organisation, which they delegate on a day-to-day basis to the paid staff members.

An Annual Report is published each year and submitted to the Charity Commission and to Companies House along with a set of audited Accounts.

The current trustees are:

  • Heather Bohonis
  • Tina Campbell
  • Su Merton
  • David Dougherty
  • Tony Stefanelli
  • Anne Whiley
  • Honorary Life President: John Garner

Our trustees are able to use their specific skills in management, accounting, PR, advertising, maintenance and so on to take on oversight of the organisation as a whole, making strategic decisions and ensuring that everything is done to the highest standard possible to help move CARESCO forward.

If you would like more information about how you can get involved, please contact us.
